I am for separation of genders. Why?

Girls and guys are different. There are physical differences between the two. I have heard how awkward it is for girls to slap their thighs and curl their mustaches when choreography requires them to. It's NOT a matter of equality. It's NOT that girls can't do bhangra as well as guys - they just execute it differently and there is nothing wrong with that. There is a reason why almost every sport has separation of gender.

If a competition can handle it, there should be a separate category for Girls, Guys and Co-ed. This would make life much easier for judges as well because there are less variables to judge on. Often times, we limit our definition of what bhangra truly is by idolizing an all-guy team with dancers aged from 16-24. A bhangra performance performed by an all-girl team, a toddler team or a team of deaf dancers will still be bhangra, but it will simply be executed differently and that is perfectly fine. Girls need to stop trying to imitate guys when it comes to bhangra and do what comes naturally to them. Once again, let me emphasize that this separation of genders is NOT because one gender is handicapped when compared to another, rather far from it. It's because guys and girls are different (even in vardiyan).

SEGREGATION of GENDERS! SEPARATE CATEGORIES for GUYS and GIRLS! SEPARATE AFTERPARTIES for GUYS and GIRLS! SEPARATE BATHROOMS for GUYS and GIRLS! :)

I think that all teams should be judged together.  If you apply to a competition where a girl's team is dancing, you should always prepare accordingly (modify your routine to surmount the scintila of bias for or against the girl's team depending on the locale...there is always a little bias)...If you are a girl's team and you are applying to competition heavy on guys teams, you should always prepare accordingly (modify your routine to surmount the more aggressive and "male" dance style)...If you you know there will be one or two live teams, make sure you cover the folk element, maybe throw in a little live intro...I think that there can be a healthy medium between genders...competitions come down to strategic preparation, gender, style, grace, formations, mix are all variables for the formula that is required and that must be tailored specifically to each competition.  Let me give an example:

If AEG applied to VIBC, a modern competition, where SMD and APD were guaranteed to place because of past history of the competition and their styles, I would 1. make sure to throw in something to vary my team and stand out in order to surmount the large, or small bias in favor for SMD as a girl's team (maybe dance to a miss pooja song, do a little Giddha foot work, do the fruity AEG stuff that we are famous for). 2. Throw in stunts and other gimmicks in order to overcome APD's style 3. make sure our mix, and formations were through the roof, since VIBC is all about entertainment.  These are practical considerations that MUST be made, and an example of tailoring.

Strategy and planning wins competitions, and every conversation we have about elements such as gender, grace and mix fall under the umbrella of a directed strategy...

Covering all your bases keeps the WAHmbulance at bay.

Practically every sport does it for a reason. In fact if you ask me i think it would make competition more tough because you dont have such differences meaning teams would have to step their game up :)
