Kainthe-  One time my kainthe smacked me in the tooth during a performance.  If you're worried that the same might happen to you, pin the kainthe to your kurta on top of your sternum.

YES. This has happened to me before at an on-campus cultural event. Unfortunately, the camera man also zoomed in on me and was lucky enough to see me get smacked.

But thanks for the post, it definitely helps and re-affirms things that we've done.

In regards to the phumens, we've also SAFETY PINNED them to the kurta. It definitely helps in keeping them in spot.

Front turla for guys!!! lol...once the pagg is tied, alot of us start shaking our heads around and touching it, which makes it really loose. Once it's tied just give a little shake side and front to test the turla after that just "sit down, shut up, and wait" - (that is the exact quote I get in punjabi after my pagg is tied- I just provided an english translation) lol!

I think its pretty lame when teams show up to a competition and don't know how to tie pughs.  If you don't have someone on your team who can tie a pugh before you go backstage to get dressed, don't expect that someone from another team will just magically appear to tie them for you.  Its a burden on someone to be tying 15 pughs or more for multiple teams.

It is really surprising to me how many competitions I have been to where teams expect this.  At least come to a competition knowing how to put on all of your outfit even if it isn't perfect.

Practice... Have a dress rehearsal the week of the competition if you are a new team or have new dancers who aren't use to wearing the outfit.  That way they and learn how to dance with the outfit on.

About pugga, some people said that if the pugga hurts or is really tight then its good.  I don't believe that.  A good pug will fit the person without causing them pain and will stay in place.

Bandana should be the decision of who is tying the pugga.  Yes it makes it easier for the pug to stay in place but in my opinion it makes it a lot harder to get the turla in.  I personally have found it sometime harder to work with so usually I don't have people wear them.  You can work around long hair and still make it so the pug won't come off

Use the restroom before putting on your outfit.

Pin anything that is loose and you think might come off.

Girls - just pin everything, I don't know too much of what our girls do cuz im usually busy tying pugga (and we usually have a race to see if the guys or the girls can get ready first), but I know they make sure everything is perfect.  They pretty much have it down to a business where everything is done the same way for each girl.

Finally:
Once it's tied just give a little shake side and front to test the turla after that just "sit down, shut up, and wait" - (that is the exact quote I get in punjabi after my pagg is tied- I just provided an english translation) lol!

Don't go around being an idiot messing up your outfit.

y dont the guys just use a do rag instead of a bandana? this way ur hair is out of the way...and unlike a bandana its not as thick so wudnt it make it easier to tie a pugg?

a question for the girls

make-up; do you have it the same? how "bright/standing out" is the eyeshadow? does everyone do their own or one person?
does it even make a difference if it is on or not?

ok no u cant c the makeup when ur sittin far away...but as i was readin through the rules of idols....they explain how they have cameras in i think 6 different locations.....meaning that they'll see ur face...and i would put makeup on like ur a clown literallyyyy...layer it on ...but i think that make up can definetly bring out the facial expressions more
ex.  ever noticed a black person's smile-how its soo noticeable...well i hate going on stage lookin white and pale..so i use bronzer...also it kinda adds a shine to ur face-so now ur face glows when u smile during the dance; ok i kno that a few guys on btf dont like surma but seriously it looks nice-and brings out ur eyes...and at times watch the ppl on ur team-u can tell how hype, how much they love a song by their eyes--its weird to explain but at times ur eyes got this glow to em like ur face does...and puttin surma on helps to show that
-also think bout performance pictures...usually u'll see these pictures on next years show to help advertise how great the show was the previous year...and w/full blown makeup ur pictures turn out nice...also some1 said somethin bout keepin ur beard clean-that wud show up tooo on there

overall, if you're performing u shud definetly put all the hard work into looking good urself and makin ur dance look good....ur clothes show ur personality---the way u put ur outfit together before u go on stage represents ur whole team (and notice how ppl realize that ohh these teams chadra were terrible-and its a disgrace/ or the puggs or fallin off) u wanna show ur team has respect for the culture as well-so present urself like ur bout to hit the red carpet

the reason i would never use a do rag is becuase it has that extra piece of cloth in the back sticking out..and i when tying pug i don't wanna deal with that.....also do rag's material is all mot silky and likely to slip than a bandana..bandana has more grip in my opinion

so not silky got it!!!! i like how the guys on here are alot more upfront bout their outfits and this way i l kno wat the guys on our team mite need...seeing that me and mariam have to get the stuff for our guys and usually dont kno wat they need----btww do u guys usually need 8000 safety pin also?????

also another suggestion...i was shoppin at a ghetto store and id only find this stuff there...but anywayz they do have something where its like a do-rag yet w/out the part in the back....it was called a wave cap i guess--u mite be able to find those at a hair supply store....it shud come in a non-silky material---but bandanas r probably the easiest to find

Definitely need 1 safety pin per guy for chaadre.  Might need 2 pins for phuman.  And keep a few more handy in case turlas are a problem.

Girls - Pencil in your eyebrows

Unless you already have nice, dark eyebrows, pencil yours in a bit w/ a eyebrow pencil so they are really visible and clear.  Eyebrows are a huge part of expression.

I agree with Mr Bruahhhhhhh!

It doesn't take that many pins for guys. Also, for the sake of the vests (we don't like how they could kind of come off a little), so we pin it to the kurta. It takes 2 pins, chaadra takes 1 pin (so you don't see our amazing legs), the turla can be a trouble sometimes....but on average, i use 3 pins per turla. My turla tends to need a little more because i haven't perfected tying the turla on myself. Still workin on that right now.

The majority of our pins go to turlas...Jasmeet is right...especially if you use the inserted turlas...then sometimes it requires a slew of pins...if you don't have time to retie it and it looks awkward...you gotta do a quick pin job..but other then that...2 for the vests...1 for the chadhar thats it..

we are low maintenance.

Guys don't pin as much as girls need to. We hold up pretty nicely.

ugh... I'm with you on this, Jasmeet.  Been through the whole surma ordeal, and it's definitely not worth it for guys.  ASD girls, please, for the sake of mankind, do not subject your guys to that torture!

I think the thing with the pug for you is, you're quite good at it. Most good pug tiers don't need pins for the pug...for me, coming into it...i really limit the pins. It's eventually going to hit 0 once i figure out the subtleties and such.

and same for Mr Bruahhh...don't subject your guys to any of this stuff. Let them do what they need to do.

aight sounds good to me (ill just give em a plastic bag filled w/ummm 4+8+(4*4)=28 pins)
